Building a bathhouse, sauna or hamam? What to choose? Not everyone knows the difference between a hamam, a sauna and a traditional bathhouse. First of all, we would like to tell you a little about the sauna, because it is not only a Finnish national symbol. (To give you an idea, there are more than 2 million saunas in Finland, with a population of 5 million). But the saunas that exist today, and the saunas that the northern peoples used to have, have undergone significant changes and have become much simpler.
The main difference between a bathhouse and a sauna is the humidity and temperature. In a sauna it is very hot and stuffy, the temperature reaches 100-110 degrees and the humidity is 10-15%. In a bathhouse, the temperature remains at 60-80 degrees with a humidity of 30-40%. The main technical difference between a sauna and a bathhouse is the stove. A sauna uses a closed or open electric heater that burns the air in the steam room as it heats the electric heating elements. This is why it is so difficult to breathe.
It is not recommended to pour water on the stones in the sauna because, firstly, it can burn the heating elements in the electric heater. Secondly, and more importantly, in addition to the temperature in the sauna (which is around 100 degrees), there is also hot steam, which can scald your body and skin.
A turnkey sauna is a serious project. Therefore, it is important to know that the shelves in the sauna are made of several levels so that you can mainly sit on them. This makes it impossible to heat the sauna evenly. But the sauna was not always like this. The Nordic people considered the classic bathhouse to be a black bathhouse, where they not only steamed, but also washed, gave birth and even dried meat. Most people do not see the difference between a sauna and a bathhouse, and in vain. They are two completely different environments with different effects on our body and organism.
The construction of saunas replaced the construction of baths in the days of the USSR, when there were strict requirements for steam rooms. At that time, steam baths were wood-burning, steam, with the possibility of using brooms. In order to meet the requirements of the SES and the fire brigade, the premises were considerably simplified by installing an ordinary electric heater. This turned the steam room into a dry air stuffy room. The worst thing that can happen in a sauna is to endure it. Hot, dry air has a negative effect on the body, drying out the mucous membranes of the respiratory tract and the eyes. In contact with the skin, dry heat causes discomfort, burning, and for sensitive skin such a process can be fraught with burns. Learn more about saunas.

Let's look at the characteristics of a hammam.
Hamam is one of the oldest types of baths, similar in its principle of action on the skin to the Roman baths, where heating occurs with the help of steam. That is why many people think about building a hamam. The principle of its construction is very simple. The walls, shelves and in some cases the ceiling and floor are heated. The heating of the surfaces is very gentle, i.e. you can lie down, get warm and enjoy it. In our opinion, the hammam is much more interesting and, above all, healthier than the sauna, where the body is severely affected by hot air.
It is recommended to use a hammam before cosmetic procedures. A hammam steams the skin and opens the pores, which makes cosmetic procedures more effective. It is also good to sit in a hammam after doing sports. The only thing is that not for 5-10 minutes, but until the moment of complete relaxation, so that the body warms up well and deep penetration of heat into the body occurs. Humidity and temperature characteristics in a hammam are about 100 percent humidity at an air temperature of 30 to 50 degrees.
One of the most common questions asked by customers of a turnkey hammamis how much time should be spent in it. Our answer is the same as in a normal steam bath - according to how you feel. That is, if you feel good and can sit or better lie down in the hamam for 20-30-40 minutes, then it is better to spend all that time enjoying it.

In some cases, birch or oak brooms are also used in a Hamam. We are especially often ordered construction of a hamam beauty salons and spa centers because of the simplicity of the procedure for visiting a hamam. It takes a lot more effort to heat and prepare a bath. And a hammam is prepared at the touch of a button. The walls and surfaces are heated, the steam generator starts working and we get good, pleasant steam.
Our recommendations for a visit to the hamam. Before your visit, you should take a warm shower so that the procedure is as comfortable as possible and your skin can get used to the effects of hot steam. Learn more about the hamam.
Bathhouse — this is what we hear most often. The main difference between a bathhouse and a hammam or sauna is the state of comfort in a steam bath. First of all, it is the soft steam, low temperatures and smooth, even heating, as if we were in our mother's womb. The main technical feature and difference of such a steam bath is a wood-burning stove. It is desirable to have a closed heater. The main material used for finishing a sauna is tiling, and for finishing a hammam - ceramic tiles or stone. When finishing a real turnkey bathhouse natural finishing materials are preferably used, which provide an indescribable feeling and smell. Learn more about the construction of bathhouses.
And of course a very important element in such a steam bath is the window. The bigger it is, the better. It is desirable that it is not very high, so that fresh air can flow directly to the head of the person who is steaming. We open the window, take a whisk and ventilate the room in one go. The person will breathe fresh air, enjoy the coolness and will be able to spend much longer time in the steam bath and get unforgettable pleasure from it. Only in the bath, due to the gentle effect of thermal steam and low temperatures, the skin begins to breathe and opens. In this way, toxins and harmful substances are removed from the body, and important intercellular fluid remains in the body.
