Swimming pool for home

Buy fixed or folding?

A swimming pool in a house or on a plot of land is no longer a surprise. Today's technology makes it possible to make a turnkey swimming pool construction in a house at a reasonable price. New pool manufacturers are appearing all the time, and there are even more types of pools. There is a wide choice for consumers. Here you can find fixed pools (concrete, plastic, composite, fibreglass, sand), collapsible, inflatable.

There are many different types of pool available today. But how do you sort through all of them and choose the one that suits you best? We will now try to find out. Most types of pools can be divided into two categories: fixed and removable. For a complete and objective description of each type, we will look at the pros and cons of each pool separately.

Let's start with stationary pools for home

Stationary pool for home is a solid, non-detachable structure. The pool itself can be divided into two parts. The first component is the basin, where the water is collected and held. Since the pool is designed to be watertight but not strong, it needs some sort of support to hold the walls of the pool together and prevent it from becoming unusable.

The support function is provided by the pitin which the basin is placed. The presence of a pit is obligatory in stationary pools because the walls of the water reservoir are set directly into the ground and do not allow the bowl to be damaged. The purpose of the pit is to reinforce the pool.

The bowls themselves are made from different materials, and the way they are fixed in the pit is therefore slightly different. After all, the reinforced frame of a polypropylene pool (5 mm thick) must be thicker than that of a self-contained composite bowl. And the most durable concrete pool has the greatest reinforced wall thickness of increased strength.

Because a permanent pool in a home is a capital structure, it raises many questions. To avoid them turning into disadvantages, everything must be carefully assessed and considered.

Types of fixed pools for the home:

It is necessary to allocate a suitable plot of land for construction. Not everyone can give up a garden or flowerbed to build a pool. The slope of the land also plays a big part. If the site is on a slope or the ground is very crumbly, additional costs will be incurred in preparing the site for construction.

Do not forget the need for drawings, calculations when building a pool for a house, as well as the availability of a large amount of time for the construction itself. Pipe connections, fittings for metal-plastic pipes, metal-plastic pipes. Specialist knowledge is essential. It is necessary to hire people to do this or, if you are doing it yourself, at least to consult them constantly. You will also need special equipment to dig a pit. You will need to know how to roll out the foundation for the pool. In general, you will need to hire professionals in their field if you do not want to be patching up cracks in the pool after two or three winters.

It is necessary to consider the need to carry out regular cosmetic repairsto keep your aquatic beauty looking perfect. Every few years it is advisable to carry out a technical inspection of the pool.

Compared to a collapsible structure, a fixed in-ground pool does not have the ability to be easily moved to another location. This is perhaps the main disadvantage of a fixed pool. If you need to carry out repairs for a while, or if you need to move, you will not be able to roll the pool up and hide it temporarily, as you can with a collapsible pool.

The cost of maintaining an artificial reservoir must also be known, calculated and considered. Take into account that you will need to buy antibacterial products, rinses, replace filters and other consumables on a regular basis. In winter you will also need to spend money on covering the pool against frost and snow. It is also necessary to take into account the cost of maintaining the surroundings (plumbing, mechanisms for cleaning the reservoir, maintenance of vegetation) and the maintenance of any additional elements (e.g. hot tubes, fountains).

Improvements to the area around the pool can include costs such as covering the area around the water reservoir (e.g. tiles, decking board, wood or stone), landscaping (plants, grass), building a barbecue, garden furniture, lighting, fencing, etc. These costs can vary greatly depending on the materials and services chosen.

The main advantages of choosing a permanent pool for your home:

Firstly, it is the strength and reliability of the structure. You don't have to worry about a group of people jumping into your pool at the same time and the pool simply not being able to cope. The maximum risk to your pool is the loss of a few litres of water and nothing more.

The life span is about 20-30 years, taking into account regular cosmetic repairs. If you follow all the rules of technical maintenance, your pool will serve you and your children for many years.

Secondly, it is safety. If the bowl leaks, a stationary pool will drain into the ground and not harm you or your neighbours. If a collapsible pool leaks, all the water will collect on the surface and pool. This can lead to mould, flooding of nearby plants and damage to the lawn.

Thirdly, it is resistant to damage. A stationary home pool is difficult to damage with a sharp object as it is easy to do with a collapsible pool. The only thing to worry about with a fixed pool is landslides and a poorly installed pool foundation. Nothing else can damage your pool.

Fourthly, fixed water structures offer greater flexibility in design and size (they can be any shape, not just rectangular or oval). They can also be equipped with slides and a play area for swimming.

For comparison, here is a brief overview of folding frame poolswhich are a metal support structure. It holds the cover inside the structure. The tarpaulin is waterproof and defines the shape of the frame pool. The metal structure supports this cover.

Removable frame pool, main advantages:

➡️ Quick to install. To start the installation, you will need to select a flat piece of land or manually adjust the land to the installation by levelling it. No additional structures or pits need to be built. All that is required for the installation is a level surface.

➡️ Easy to assemble. You do not need any additional services from contractors. Two people are enough to install a collapsible pool and the installation instructions are clear. It will take you a maximum of one day to get your pool up and running.

➡️ Mobile and compact. You have chosen a location, but once you have installed it, you realise that you have left little space for the driveway to the garage? No problem! Drain the water and move it elsewhere. You don't like the fact that the leaves of a neighbouring tree are polluting the water in your private swimming pool? No problem! You can always find another suitable spot.

And now the main disadvantages when choosing such an object:

Gentle use. This type of pool for a summerhouse or cottage is very vulnerable to damage. The pool liner is very strong for holding water, but is not at all protected against punctures and cuts. A small tear can cause the water pressure to tear a hole into a huge hole.

The need to clean the pool before winter. Tarpaulins are very sensitive to frost and may be unusable if left outside in winter. You must therefore take care to clean it at the end of the summer and reassemble it at the beginning of the summer, which takes a lot of time.

Minimum safety margin. The constant assembly and disassembly of such an artificial water reservoir leads to the deterioration of the tarpaulin surface. Frequent bending of the tarpaulin leads to cracks and, in further use, to leaks.

Need for additional storage space. It is important to remember that although the pool is collapsible, it still takes up a considerable amount of space when assembled. It is also important to protect the tarpaulin from accidental punctures and the metal structure from deformation during storage.

It is up to you to decide what suits you best. Indeed, it is not always advisable to build a permanent pool in the house if the main purpose is to have a few dips in the summer. Even a temporary inflatable pool will do for these purposes. And again, it is foolish to focus on collapsible structures if you expect to use the water reservoir for more than a few years.
